Abstract

The movement of the play takes place in the reason, sense, and mental balance of Frank. Consequently there are no confines or physical walls. People emanate and retreat abruptly, as in the memory; but it is not essential that they walk on stage. The exchanges will make evident who is Vital” at any moment and who is in harmony. The result, therefore, will be the rushing, transitory chaos of psyche penetrating its own face and probing its underbelly. The play beings with Frank, Martin and Samuel discussing a girl who is Samuel’s neighbor, named Lauren. Frank and Lauren get along well and soon develop a relationship even though she has a boyfriend back home in France. Frank has several flashbacks to previous relationships he was in. After discovering Lauren has to move back to France, he asks her to marry him. She does not agree and Frank is saddened by her departure. Martin encourages him to go to France after Frank admits he loves her, which is the first time he has admitted he loves someone. After arriving in France, Lauren tells Frank it would never work as they live two separate lives and is still with her boyfriend. There are various references made to Frank Sinatra throughout the play.
