Program is for the play by Eugène Scribe. The comedy is set at the court of Queen Anne of Great Britain. Anne is not a strong ruler and is under the influence of Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough. Anne is working to end the War of Spanish Succession, but Sarah hopes to profit from prolonging the war to keep her husband the Duke of Marlborough in his position in the British Army. Sarah's greatest enemy is Lord Bolingbroke who wants peace, and who uses the two women's feelings to his advantage in his own court intrigues. The play ran October 1985. Program was created by the Whittier College Theatre Department.
