Abstract

Program is for the play by Cecil Philip Taylor. The play follows John Halder, a German literature professor in the 1930s whose book on compassionate euthanasia is suddenly used in support of government propaganda. Halder, a good man, unwittingly makes decisions that affect those closest to him. The story explores not just how a “good” man can succumb to the allure of powerful political figures but how an average person can be seduced into what may be considered objectionable. The play was directed by Josh Machamer and ran May 1993. Program was created by the Whittier College Theatre Department.
