Abstract

Dear Reviewer, as my senior project for the Whittier Scholars Program it was my honor to produce, direct, and dramaturg Jean Anouilh’s Antigone as a mainstage production for [the] Whittier College Theater Arts Department. The original documents collected within this binder represent the process through which the production came together. The collection includes dramaturgical research (articles with my original notes), production planning notes, design conceptions, relentless schedules, audition and casting information, dramaturgical notes, critical reviews and most importantly seven weeks of rehearsal journals. However, the real meat of the project were the actual performances where all the planning, designing, and rehearsing united with sold-out audiences to create five truly unique works of art. Short of that experience, I turn over to you in confidence my part as a dramaturg/director. I hope you will respect the confidentiality of the rehearsal notes and forgive my often illegible penmanship. Few students are endowed with the opportunity to produce a mainstage production. The role I played was an important one but only one of many. Having completed this project I have developed a new understanding of collaboration and mutual experiences which breathe life into even ancient myths and makes them new again. Therefore, I would like to thank the Whittier scholars department and councils, the theater arts faculty and staff, [and] all the fine artists who contributed to this endeavor. Lastly, I would like to welcome the future reviewers of this project, who I hope will find some inspiration within these pages so they’re never gone (anti-gone).
