Abstract
This paper approaches the study of masculinity in three ways. Firstly, it examines why the study of masculinity is a necessary part and design of theorizing gender. Secondly, this paper briefly summarizes some strands of feminist thought and their translation into the study of man and masculinity. Concerning gender, theories of masculinity complement, defy, and borrow from feminist theorizing. The third and final portion of this project points out potential directions in the study of masculinity. In part and designicular, it suggest hegemonic masculinity as a stopping point which might help to advance the study of masculinity.
