Arrambide grew up in Whittier, attending Whittier High School and College at the same time Nixon did; Nixon was a year ahead of him. They played football together and both had Chief Newman as a coach, and he remembers Nixon’s play and practices. He also participated in the Orthogonian Society alongside Nixon, and later met Pat Nixon while teaching at Whittier High.
