Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the evolution of the abortion issue in the United States, more directly, how the three branches of federal government have used their constitutional powers to effect change in abortion policy. This is a topic of interest for a variety of reasons; abortion is a highly volatile and controversial issue that has sparked the interest of the American people to become politically active. In addition, it is a concern that has demanded the attention of our leaders and simply cannot be laid to rest due to the millions of vocal and politically active protesters representing both sides.
