Abstract
This project is an interactive CD-Rom that looks at different aspects of kelp forest communities. This project presents the many species of animals that live in the kelp forest, as well as explain the reasons for this diversity. This study also relates human interactions with kelp to raise awareness of kelp forests as well as environmental and commercial issues. The main goal of this study is to inform about the nature of kelp and kelp forests particularly about the environment that exists under the water’s surface and is directed towards junior high and highschool students. This project is divided into two sections: Learn about Kelp and Have Fun with Kelp. Learn about Kelp is the educational portion of the project that looks at different concepts that deal with kelp forests and their function. Have Fun with Kelp is the section in which people can play a couple of games that are based on the information presented. Some topics included within the sections of the project are descriptions of the variety of marine organisms that live in kelp forests, food chains, the physiological structures of a kelp plant, sea otters as a keystones species. Different habitats within a kelp forest, upwelling and others. The next section details choosing software and hardware and artistic decision to use 2D. Within the next section includes an outline for the Senior Project and overall content within project. The fourth section includes display content for the CD-Rom. With the final section being text sources.
