Abstract
The Cold War, in many ways shaped the world we live in and how it operates at the international level, especially with regards to United States foreign policy. Due to the Cold War framework and the environment that it provided is it possible that other pre-existing social movements could be encouraged to act within the nations they reside? And if so, how did they act in response? This paper will utilize the level of analysis framework as well as the concepts of the security dilemma spiral to analyze two seperate case studies: the Cold War and the rise of Muslim Brotherhood within Egypt. In researching the two cases, there seems to be evidence that supports the claim that the Cold War provided a setting for the Muslim Brotherhood to grow within Egypt and even spur the Brotherhood to become more militant than it had ever intended to be.
