Abstract
This project begins by mentioning the geography of California and the definition of a wetland. The characteristics of a wetland can be divided into two types, saltwater and freshwater. California has patches of both types and for this reason which should focus our attention on both types. This study looks at how wetland acreage in Merced County has changed due to changes in land use in the last forty-five years. I have examined two years in Merced County History, 1946 and 1990. In doing so, I have looked at total wetland, agriculture and urban acreage within my study area. The purpose of this investigation is to learn about the trends and status of wetlands in Merced County. I’m interested in finding out the major factors contributing to wetland loss in the area and how these factors are affecting the wildlife.
