Abstract
Latin Pop within mainstream music has become a trend in the United States that has allowed for Spanish and English to coexist in one track. The causes of the emergence of this trend are the Latino population growth, streaming platforms, and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s son “Despacito. This trend is impacting the music industry’s future by allowing artists to reach more people and expand their audience. The trend also implements Latino culture in American culture by creating unity between fans from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. By looking at Latino population growth, Spotify streaming service, and music rankings through Billboard, I am able to show how the Latino population has immense buying power that is changing the future of music, and is bridging the gap between American and Latino culture by combining elements from Latin Pop into Hip-Hop and R&B in the United States. In order to embrace and power Latino culture, I became inspired to create a song that reflects the Latino Pop trend. I wrote and produced a bilingual song that reflects the Latin Pop trend in Mainstream music by mixing Latin and Hip-Hop elements. I created cover artwork to this song that fits the vision I had for this project. The steps I took to produce my song, and the reflection of my senior project are described in my paper. Overall, Latin Pop is a continuing trend in the U.S. that is a growing market and continues to expand, and from this senior project I acquired the skills needed to produce a song that targets this audience.
