Abstract
Non-profit organizations exist to fulfill the social needs that government or society cannot. The needs of society change over time. This is because governments societies, and individuals all exist in a continuous state of change. Governments elect new leaders, societies adopt new values and individuals grow in age. Non-profit organization need to respond to changes quickly and effectively. Many non-profits become too attached to their current cause or mission to recognize and respond to change. They forget that their mission must be need-based and adaptive. Individuals can suffer from this same error. People go through life on autopilot, especially within the workplace. People live without without considering why they live. People forget their priorities. Without priorities they lose their motivation. Without motivation physical, emotional, and spiritual growth can become very difficult. Entrepreneurialism, innovation or thoughtful change all require internal assessment. By becoming more thoughtful and aware of present situations, organizations and individuals prepare themselves for the future. They set goals for what they want and they better understand the tools for achieving them. The purpose of this paper is to encourage the growth of entrepreneurialism within the non-profit sector. To do so, a more careful analysis of the non-profit sector is made; “entrepreneurialism” and Non-profit”entrepreneurialism” are defined and discussed; the additional benefits and drawbacks of entrepreneurial activity in the non-profit sector are explored; and a plan of action for implementation is laid out.
