Abstract

This projects talks about the pattern of storm drains, and their damaging effects. For example in areas like Southern California where rainfall is infrequent but heavy, usually large amounts of water gather gaining speed and pressure as it comes through the system and upon expulsion the water is shed so fast that it can have damaging effects on vegetation and habitat around the physical drain. Many of the pollutants carried out by urban runoff include: sediment, oil pesticides, nutrients from lawns, gardens or farms, viruses, bacteria from pet waste, heavy metals, and many more. Many of these pollutants are toxic to human health as well as ecosystem health prompting the question of why we have such an infrastructure in place.
