Abstract
Social and cultural capital of a community impacts college access programs in education. Communal factors such as community centers, and nonprofit organizations are implemented to support lacking educational systems. Familial involvement is a valuable determinant in a student’s academic career. This research will examine college access programs such as AVID and Upward Bound, in conjunction with how they build social and cultural capital. Social and cultural capital impact college access programs, and familial involvement plays a large role in the utilization of this information. This paper looks at how college access programs build social and cultural capital for college access.
