Abstract
Since their inception, intentional communities have served as a sort of testing grounds for new ideas and ways of living, which often end up influencing the wider culture and changing the world. In examining the relationships (or lack thereof) between them, we seek to determine whether or not the relatively recent phenomenon of the digital community is, or isn’t, equitable to the conventional intentional community. By conducted via three interviews with members of three separate intentional communities, each community was related in some way to gaming and video games. Through these interviews, it was determined that, because of fundamental differences in operating structure and purpose, digital and physical communities are not equitable in terms of scope or impact.
