Abstract
In these letters, contained within the same envelope, Florence comments on Lorena's last letter and reports that Miss Yoshida's niece is staying with them. She discusses her rigorous teaching schedule and clothing and shoes that she wants to buy, then reports that an American steamer ship brought an epidemic of flu to Japan. She discusses current politics, including American concerns about propaganda and Japanese freedom of the press. She extorts that Americans should have more sympathy for the Japanese, and states that "refugee ships" sent to Tokyo to collect Americans living in Japan are better served by collecting Jewish people in Shanghai.
