Abstract
This project provides some contextual information about movie director Alfred Hitchcock but expands more on visual effects, effective use of narration and camera movement to build suspense. This paper focuses specifically on how Hitchcock builds suspense in three sequences from Spellbound, Notorious, and Rear Window. This study includes descriptions of restricted, unrestricted and mixed narration, “pure cinema”, different shots, and sequence analyses for the films mentioned.
