Abstract
The purpose of this experiment was to discover if competition for food and space existed between kangaroo rats and pocket mice. On three separate occasions, over eighty traps were set in a region of the Sonoran Desert near Anza Borrego Desert State Park. A total of seventy-eight kangaroo rats were caught, but not a single pocket mouse. There is no conclusion drawn about whether or not competition occurs between the two species. The project explains how each species has adapted to the harsh desert environment, and outlines suggested changes for a future experiment.
