Abstract
Aubrey Bang-Guerin's "Can You Still Feel It?": A Visual Poem is a short, visual poem that will artistically depict the lingering struggles of a bully victim, and how those experiences continue to plague her 7 years later. The visual poem is a combination of Slam Poetry with a heavy imagery based short film on the detrimental long-term effects of bullying in adolescence. The combination of Slam poetry's popularity and film's timelessness creates an easily digestible format of extremely heavy information. "Can You Still Feel It?": A Visual Poem utilizes Bang-Guerin's own experiences and poetry to make a powerful piece of slam poetry, cultivating a vulnerability and honesty that forces listeners to empathize and step out of their comfort zones. In order to understand the epidemic that bullying is one must feel its effects as if they were their own feelings and experiences; this project allows for a different perspective that enables the viewer to walk in the victim's shoes. Victims of adolescent bullying continue to experience and struggle with the trauma up to 10 years afterwards and it is inhibiting them from living their lives to the fullest. By taking an artistic approach, she is able to articulate the severity of the trauma and open a dialogue on the subject matter.
