Abstract

This project is centered on the nature of organizational culture and the current atmosphere or the art world in general and is a report that presents an analysis of organizational culture in two art museums following a specific outline. This project defines and explicates organizational culture as well as the importance and significance of this area. This also includes a summary discussion of recent events and trends which influence the art world as reported in art, news, and business publications and periodicals. This study includes an analytical approach to identify organizational culture in both the Huntington and Pacific Asia Museums as well as conclusions and recommendations for change and further study. This project’s research consists of several interviews as well as personal experience working at the Huntington Library, Art Galleries, and Botanical Gardens as an intern under the curator of American Art, and at the Pacific Asua Museum as an intern under the Director of Education. This project ultimately reveals the prodigious impact of culture on an institution and also ways to look for its attributes.
