Abstract
This is a research paper to support a senior voice recital. It is important for a musician to know the background information for a piece to be performed, so that it can be better understood by the singer and thus better conveyed to the audience. Music needs to communicate a thought, a feeling and an intent. By carefully studying the style, the composer, and the text of a piece, and gaining knowledge of the period in which it was written, a musician can convey the thoughts, and feelings intended by the composer and develop a knowledgeable interpretation.
