Abstract
I was first introduced to Sufism after reading poems by Sufis like Hakim Jami and Jalaludin Rumi. After reading their poetry, I began exploring the possibility of what connection, if any, existed between the Sufi poets and western poets. The relevant material pertaining to this possible connection is scarce. Thus, I have expanded the topic of this paper to exploring the possible connections between Sufism and some selected pieces of western literature. Since western literature encompasses a broad area, I have limited my search to authors I feel I am most familiar with. I have divided this study into three sections. The first section is devoted to Sufism, the religion. The second concentrates on Sufi poems. While the third section is a synthesis of the first two and suggests possible connections between sufism and western literature.
